Mini Kitchen Update for Major Impact

Sometimes you just instantly know what needs to happen to greatly improve a room. This small kitchen update is a perfect example of that. The kitchen was not initially part of the scope of this project, but when I saw the space during my consultation, I couldn't help but also propose a simple update that would significantly alter the function, flow, and lighting of the entire room.

We don't always approach a project with idea of starting from scratch. We actually often do not. You've heard me talk about making existing floors work in the past (like here and here), and in this scenario, we were not trying to reinvent the look of the kitchen. There was a lot that we really loved in the existing kitchen. We wanted to keep the cabinetry, but just make it function better. We wanted to close away the liquor and glass wear and create a super functional bar area by adding beverage drawers.

So, we made some minor tweaks in cabinetry layout, matched the existing finish of the cabinets and dropped the level of the peninsula to counter height which also gave my clients a ton of extra, really usable space and seating.

Check out the before!

What an incredible difference these modifications made!
